Try These Workouts From Your Room

Try These Workouts From Your Room

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in gyms, bars, leisure centres and more closing their doors temporarily. Moreover, the need to self-isolate and distance ourselves from friends have severely limited our movements. Staying active and getting to exercise regularly has become harder, but we’re here to show you it’s still possible!

Thankfully, the internet has once again come through with some amazing exercises you can get done from the comfort of your own room, or the wider Point Campus accommodation. While we’re not telling you to cut out your Netflix binges, simply try a few of these workouts before you settle in for the night!

Pilates

Anyone who has ever tried pilates will tell you that it’s a deceivingly tough workout! What’s ideal about it is that you don’t need any equipment and mostly uses your body as a natural weight. Are you a member of a pilates studio? Check their Instagram or website to see if they’re offering any virtual or live classes. If not, here are some great Irish studios who are offering online sessions!

HIIT Workouts

HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training and is a great way to finish a serious workout in a short amount of time! These sessions normally make use of bodyweight exercises, completed one after the other with minimal time to rest. Here’s an example of a round of a HIIT you can do in your room.

Air Squats x 12
Mountain Climbers (click here for tutorial)
Press-ups x 10
Plank x 30 seconds
Tricep Dips x 10 (click here for tutorial)

Rest for 10 seconds between each exercise and 1 minute between each round. Try completing 2-3 rounds! Our friends over at Movement Fitness Dublin have been uploading daily workouts on their Instagram. Check them out for more workout ideas to keep you from getting bored.

Yoga

Many people confuse yoga and pilates, and think that they’re the same. This definitely isn’t the case and both practices are very different! While pilates tends to work your core muscles and joints a bit more, yoga will have you feeling like your mind has had a refreshing workout as well! One of the great things to come out of this worldwide isolation is that many yogis and instructors have been creating content for those stuck in their rooms.

Whether it’s a YouTube video you can pause at any time to adjust your position, or an Instagram Live video you can partake in in real-time, there are plenty of options out there. Here are a few of our faves!

Yoga with Maura – Maura is an Irish yoga instructor and is streaming live yoga classes from Monday – Friday at 8am and 5pm

Table tennis/Ping Pong

While this isn’t exactly a workout from your room, you can still get some exercise here at Point Campus without leaving the accommodation! Everyone loves a game of ping pong. The great thing about it is that our table tennis table ensures you keep the necessary 6ft distance between you and your opponent (we’re never not social distancing here).

Don’t forget to wipe down the bats and ball with sanitiser before and after your game!
